| The Department of Public Works currently functions with fifteen full-time permanent employees including the Director of
Public Works, one Operation Supervisor, one Foreman, and twelve general laborers. Six summer employees assist with park,
Village land and cemetery maintenance, and one part-time employee monitors the recycle/yard waste site.
All of the DPW employees provide a wide variety of services included in several areas of the Village budget as follows:
- Cemetery - Maintenance of two Village cemeteries including about 6.3 acres.
- Capital Projects - The Director, in cooperation with the contract Village Engineer, prepares the 5-year Capitol
Improvements Plan; plans, designs and coordinates construction for all Village Capital Projects, reviews and coordinates
other private developments.
- Public Works - Responsibilities include maintenance of Village facilities, equipment and land including street
rights-of-way, approximately 40 miles of street, 25.4 miles of storm sewer, 1,031 storm sewer structures, DPW garage and
miscellaneous vehicles and equipment. In addition, the department has maintenance responsibility for the Municipal
Building and Library.
- Environmental Services - Includes provision of recycling and yard waste services, planting and maintenance of
landscaping / trees and a gypsy moth monitoring program.
- Parks - Maintenance of approximately 85.1 acres of Parks and other Village open space including
six baseball diamonds, four soccer fields, one football field, 4.4 miles of asphalt / chip / boardwalk trail, four tennis
courts, three basketball courts, one Fine Arts Center, seven picnic shelters and playground equipment.
- Sanitary Sewer Department - Operation and maintenance of approximately 46.9 miles of sanitary sewer, six lift
stations and 1,155 manholes.
- Water Department - Operation and maintenance of approximately 49.4 miles of water main, four wells, four storage
facilities, 2,711 water meters, 560 fire hydrants, 1,296 valves and appurtenances.
