Director of Public Works
The Village of Hartland (pop. 9,293), Waukesha County is seeking an experienced supervisor to serve as its next Director of Public Works. The position is open due to the retirement of the previous Director. A strong candidate will have a demonstrated ability to lead and develop people and nurture an atmosphere of customer service and accountability. Qualified candidates will have an understanding of 21st century skills with ability to triage problems; have excellent communication skills and the ability to remain positive and flexible in a municipal environment.
The Director, with the assistance of two Operations Supervisors, manages, plans and directs Hartland’s Public Works and Utility Operations including the areas of engineering, capital projects design and construction, water supply, operation and maintenance, sanitary sewer collection and transmission system, storm water collection and control, parks and open spaces, environmental control, yard waste collection and recycling, cemetery operation and construction, maintenance and construction of public buildings, operation and maintenance of streets and signage. The Hartland Department of Public Works consists of 13 full time employees with 8-9 seasonal and part time staff hired during the summer and for other purposes. Facilities include about 45 miles of roadway, 27 miles of storm sewer, 52 miles of sanitary sewer, 57 miles of water main with three above ground and one below ground water storage facilities, 97 acres of park land, over 4 miles of trails, three Village-owned/operated cemeteries and maintenance oversight of the Village Hall/Police Department, Library and Public Works Department buildings.

Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Public Management or related field or professional experience and training providing a similar background. At least six years of municipal public works operations, municipal engineering or similar municipal experience in a supervisory role is a must. Certification as a Wisconsin Professional Engineer or a Master’s Degree in Public Management is desirable but not required. Possession of Wisconsin Grade I Water Operator Certification and/or Wisconsin Basic Wastewater Operator Certification with collection system subclass is also desirable.
Salary: From $98,900/year (negotiable dependent on qualifications) with an attractive benefits package.

DPW Seasonal Employment
Duties include grass cutting, trash pickup, painting, week cutting, general janitorial, parks and public works activities. Weekend work required. Recycle - Yard Waste Site Monitor
Part time position, April through November, second and fourth Saturdays of each month 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Second and fourth Tuesdays of each month 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Duties include checking in vehicles, inspecting materials brought to site, enforcing site rules and general site clean up. Must be at least 18 years old. Starting salary is $10.00 per hour. The Recreation Department is accepting applications to fill Camp Counselor positions. The Summer Day Camp Counselor is a seasonal, part-time position, leading activities at various Summer Camp programs that are offered to children ages 5 - 12. Under the direction of the Head Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator: assist in coordinating and implementing activities held each day, interact daily with camp participants, parents and other recreation staff, distribute necessary equipment and supplies as needed, enforce policies and procedures set by the Hartland Recreation Department, ensure safety and well-being of camp participants.
